Fall Paintings Artist Statement
This is a series of minor-key landscapes inspired by the woods of the Southern Appalachians. They feature the landscape of the fall: when the ground stays wet long after a rain, nature settles down to sleep, and people turn inward. It's a time of reflection.
In these paintings I try to capture some of the haunting quality of traditional mountain music. I want to impart a sense of timelessness, of the endless present, that I often feel while out on a trail.
